About Tuscia…
Read more about magical Tuscia…(pronounced “TOO-sha”)
The fascinating land of Tuscia is named after the ancient Etruscan civilization – a peaceful, highly-evolved matriarchal culture which remains mysterious to this day. Romantic remains of their ancient tombs and temples appear unexpectedly in shady canyons and among olive groves, evoking age-old memory.
Tuscia served as an outpost for popes and aristocrats during medieval and Renaissance times, all appreciative of its volcanic lakes, sacred forests and natural hot springs renowned for their healing properties. All of which we’ll explore by bike, foot, and other guided excursions!
In the mid-20th century, Tuscia became popular with artists, writers, and filmmakers. How fabulous that this lush, bohemian hideaway has managed to remain so overgrown and unsupervised to this day.
Our gorgeous country estate, the Tenuta di Paternostro is deeply embedded in the local culture. A creatively inspiring place immersed in nature, it’s practically an enchanting Italian destination in itself (often guests don’t want to leave the property). It feels like a haven set outside of ordinary time. Quiet paths for walking surround the Tenuta, awaiting your exploration . The estate expands over 30 hectares of gardens, a fountain pool, olive groves, woods, and meadows where a herd of thoroughbred horses roam freely.
It makes a perfect base to explore the treasure-trove of art, history, food, produce, and culture of this unspoiled region of Italy.
